My Blogging Goals.

I’ve had my site up for a little over a month now (go me!) and I have learned an awful lot already.

From listening to podcasts to reading up on how to start a blog, manage a blog and grow your blog , I knew that it would be a lot of work and would take a lot of patience.

Boy were they right. Not only right but it is A LOT harder than I thought it would be. If someone tells you how easy you seasoned bloggers have it, send them my way, I’ll set the record straight. ๐Ÿ™‚ I would do anything to defend my fellow bloggers!

I thought I’d give myself the rest of the year to grow by establishing some blogging goals for myself. I have come pretty far despite being a beginner. I think if I have it written out and can go back to this post, it will remind me I still have a long way to go and I need to keep chugging along. It would be a great reminder on what I need to work on.

1. Understand Google Analytics and how to install it: This is super important so I need to learn this asap.

2. Reach 1,000 pageviews a month within 6 months: I am trying to be realistic with my pageviews so I thought I’d start out with a low figure. This one will take longer until the end of 2013 but still a goal for me this year. If I can at least get to 1,000 pageviews I can start selling ads and apply for campaigns on a smaller scale. If I reach more than that, fine by me !

3. ย Set a schedule to read blogs and comment: The response to my blog has been overwhelming and much appreciated. I have to figure out a system to read and comment on other blogs on a consistent basis. I seem to be all over the place with this now. If I had it my way, I can read and comment on blogs all day long!

4. ย Order business cards. I have so many local businesses in my area and need to take advantage of this. Also, being able to put my self out there when I meet new people is a must.

5. Get better at photography: I know this one will take time but I really want to get better at photography to make sure my posts stick out.

6. Participate in more blog hops/linky parties: I have joined a couple and wow do they make a difference! On a post that I hardly got any comment love before, I ended up getting quite a few comments and have met new friends. I need to do more of these. They are fun.

7. Learn how to use and install Polyvore: This one I still can’t seem to figure out and it is such a great resource to showcase items that you want to talk about on your site. Especially since I want to talk about fashion. Must. Learn. This.

8. Learn how to use Amazon affiliate links: I like doing my own reviews of things I come across that might benefit my readers. I hear affiliate links are not worth it when it comes to monetizing but hey, it’s still good to know and would love to direct my readers to purchase the items being written about anyways.

9. More recipes: I don’t want to turn this into a food blog by all means, but I am hoping this winter I will be doing a lot of cooking and baking and would like to post them on my site.

10. Do one giveaway: I am not sure if I can pull this one off by the end of December but I am going to try. I have been researching about this particular subject and hope to do at least one. I might even give myself more time to meet this one.

Most importantly, I need to always, always, always remember why I started this in the first place. I have always liked to write-it’s a lot of fun for me, and when the going gets tough, I need to remember this. I LOVE connecting with my readers and meeting new friends through the love of writing and blogging as well. This will be an ongoing goal.

So there you have it, my blog goals for 2013. Do you have any goals for your blog? Let’s hear them!

  1. Hello fellow twitter-er. I like your blogging goals list – I think I may write a list as well, and borrow some of your goals. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also wanted to let you know as a fellow Illinoisian (or whatever the word is) Amazon doesn’t let allow us to participate in their affiliate program. ๐Ÿ™ It makes me sad too. Luckily there are some other great affiliate programs out there. The two I participate in are Linkshare and Pepperjam Network but there are others out there too.

By all means use them! I think they sum up everything I want to do with this blog.

Oh NO!!! I thought I saw something about that somewhere but I wasn’t sure-too bad ๐Ÿ™ It’s just nice to be able to use their images in exchange.

Thanks for the other programs mentioned-I’ll be sure to check them out.

  2. I’ve been blogging about six months now and definitely still need to accomplish some of these things. Good ideas!

  4. Great job with the goals! I think you have a really good handle on the different aspects that are important. My goal between now and the end of the year is to crack the secret code to using Google+ effectively. I’ll let you know how that goes!

Thanks,Kate! That means a lot to me! I really enjoy reading your blog and admire your passion as a food blogger. You seem to be doing really well and I will definitely keep you in mind with any questions I may have!

  7. Blogging is so much work. All the bloggers I know who are successful worked tirelessly for 4-5 years before their blogs really took off ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes I have to remind myself that this is all for fun because it is so easy to get overwhelmed with trying to accomplish everything at once! Great list of goals ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks! I heard that too that their blogs took off after a few years. I love Sverve because they balance out the playing field with small and large blogs,so I am going to focus on applying for campaigns through them for now.

  8. I know nothing about Polyvore. Well, nothing about how to use it, that is. I used to think it was just for clothing, but it’s so much more than that, right?

I didn’t install Analytics on my blog until about two months ago and I really wish I’d done it sooner because now I don’t have as much statistical information, in case anyone would ever ask for it.

I also installed Statcounter, and for usability I prefer it hands down over Google Analytics. Definitely get Analytics on your blog as soon as possible though so you can start getting your page visits, etc. in there. Trust me: if I can do it, anyone can ๐Ÿ™‚
