My Weekend Project: Toy Cleanup.

So this past weekend, we did a major clean up around the condo. I had to tackle the one thing that I have been avoiding for months now: organizing the kiddo’s toys and books.

She is almost 18 months old and she has TONS of toys and books already, I don’t even know where they all came from! It was like out of nowhere I was noticing a sea of toys throughout our place. You officially become a parent of a toddler when you stepped on some Megablocks. ๐Ÿ™‚

We were using the pack and play to store her toys but they were still disorganized and jammed packed in there. I also had quite a few cloth tote bags thrown in there that I have collected from conferences that I attended for my continuing education credits but were not being utilized at all.

So I came up with this idea to use these bags to store the toys and books. I didn’t make them pretty or anything, and I thought about buying those cute storage bins that they sell nowadays. But I figured using these unused bags would save me some money and at the same time utilize something that I didn’t think I had no use for, because I already have a couple tote bags that I use to take to work and when we spend the night at grandma’s house. I also found a random plastic ziploc bag that was clean and empty so I used that to put some of the more smaller miscellaneous toys in there.

I still use the pack and play for toy storage. This way, the kiddo can still have her toys and books within easy reach. It just looks so much better organized now. Of course I forgot to take a before picture (ugh) but maybe it was better you didn’t see that, it was truly a mess! The hubs was impressed for my creativity on how I used the bags, because he has been sour about what to do with these lying around. And I am not known to be an organized person (I’m trying over here !).

So if you are not a DIY’r like me or don’t care to spend money on fancy storage, you would be surprised what you can find around your home that you can use to accomplish this task. Just look around!

  1. Great use of those random tote bags that we never know what to do with! You made me laugh with the megablocks comment. Ouch!
