Sometimes you gotta just “Let it go”.

Happy Monday! How was everyone’s weekend? Last Tuesday was my birthday, which always stinks when it is on a work day, so the hubs and I celebrated it this past weekend instead. He booked us a room at the Swissotel downtown and we had dinner at a fabulous Italian restaurant called Volare, which is a must if you ever are in the area and want to try really good Italian food. We went all out from the calamari to the house salad with artichokes to the lasagna and lastly tiramisu with a candle in it. And red wine of course. All of it was good. Very good. I can totally go there again.

Happy Birthday to me, time for dessert!

Happy Birthday to me, time for dessert!

It was a perfectly clear night out but walking around the city was getting to our bones, as the night turned windy and chilly. What made it tolerable was all the holiday lights and decorations that are out and about.

By 11pm we were ready to pass out but it didn’t hurt that the pool/jaccuzzi on the 43rd floor of our hotel was open 24 hours and helped us stay up just a little bit longer! We’re such rebels ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess I am getting old ๐Ÿ™ . I only had TWO glasses of wine and I was super sleepy after that. I remember I used to be able to stay up until the wee hours with a few drinks in me and walk around with no jacket on despite the weather, but then again, what in the world was I thinking! Without my wool coat or Northface down coat, scarves, hat and boots, who are we kidding, I would freeze to death!

So you must be by now wondering, where was the kiddo this whole time? My kiddo is spending quality time with the grandparents in the next state over for a whole week. It’s a big step for her.

Up until this past weekend I was really nervous about doing this. She has spent the night there before but only for 3-4 days at a time and usually I am there too. But we figured she is now 2 1/2 years old and us parents need a break SO badly. We haven’t really been able to have a date night alone in 6 months!

So far so good, my kiddo is having a blast from what it sounds like, she has been typically picky when it comes to eating though but grandma is trying to sneak in veggies and fruits here and there. I am trying real hard not to call 2358205285 times a day to make sure everything is ok. Ok ,I called like around 10 times the other day ๐Ÿ™‚ .

I will get better with this promise!

I guess that oh so famous song from Frozen (which btw I have not seen yet, don’t kill me!) is true, sometimes you just gotta “Let it go”.

If this trial run goes well this week, then we may send her more often. Parenting is hard and we definitely need a break when given the chance. And I have to stay positive that things will be alright or I can drive myself nuts. Fortnuately she is in good hands and that really helps a lot.

I have so many projects I want to work on this week including putting up the Christmas Tree. I did have a wave of guilt the other day about all of this but I can’t let that get to me, I was thrilled they were doing this for me but I did wake up last night worrying.

So between work and these projects, I hope to stay busy enough that I don’t have to overanalyize this to keep me occupied. I know one week is going to go pretty fast. I hope to accomplish a lot, catch up with my friends, and feel refreshed just in time when my toddler comes back home.

Have you ever had your kids go away to grandma’s? How did it go? Do tell!

  1. Your daughter’s trip to her grandparent’s house is a gift for you AND for them. And what a great way for your little one to make some very special memories! I love the Swissotel. Perfect location, lovely hotel and great pool! Enjoy your week!

  2. Thank You! It was such a great time,we really needed it!

  3. Happy belated birthday! Sounds like you had an amazing time – what a great view from that hotel! My in-laws live 10 minutes away, so my husband and I are able to have impromptu date nights to the movies or a nice dinner while they watch the kids. So it’s pretty convenient for us. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you! I think date nights are important. My parents live in Indiana so it is a little further but they live on the border so they pop in and out all the time, it’s my parents’ work schedule that makes it hard for them to watch her more.
