Sweetwater Tavern and Grille

How was everyone’s weekend? It got to 40 degrees here in Chicago and we are just jumping for joy-finally! We have a long ways to go weather wise, but we are getting there, and the next thing you know we will be heading to the beach and having a cocktail at a rooftop lounge-can’t wait! We are ready!

So first off, hope you had a happy International Women’s Day. It took place yesterday and the hubs got me these pretty pink roses for it, and we also ventured out on a date night to celebrate this past Saturday at Sweetwater Tavern and Grille.

Now I have to say, nothing beats a home cooked meal for your family, but nothing also beats not having to worry about cooking and cleaning up afterwards, especially after a long week of work. It’s all about work-life balance people.

Chicago is home to many many types of eclectic restaurants and nightlife that results in a whirlwind of deciding where to go for date nights, so we finally chose Sweetwater Tavern and Grille. Turns out the hubs, who works at one of the main hotels downtown, gets an industry discount here-cool! Works for me.

This restaurant is conveniently located off of Michigan Ave so this is a good place to pop in after a long day of lugging around shopping bags. I have to say Michigan Ave was definitely happening this past weekend as people tried to fight off their cabin fever.

So we started of with a Baked Spinach Dip and I appreciated the pita bread that it came with not being on the heavy side so that you can truly experience the spinach and artichokes.

Along with the appetizer, I got myself a Navy Peartini-so good! It was sweet but not on the syrupy sweet side that you would find in Martinis sometimes-it was pretty refreshing.

And then the main course-this place had a pretty good burger menu but I opted for the Hummus Wrap instead. It was the best wrap I had ever had. It had black bean hummus, lettuce, cherry tomatos, grilled asparagus, feta, red onion, and citrus dressing. I loved how all these ingredients pulled together into a very colorful way.

If this did not scream “spring is coming”, I don’t know what else would have, but it definitely made me think spring as I consumed it. Now at first, when it was presented to me, I was a little afraid that the hummus being made with black beans might taste a little too bland but it was perfectly spiced. I actually took this half home for left overs because I was at this point too full to eat anymore-it came with side of fries too.

I have to say as far as Michigan Ave goes, this is one of the better restaurants on this path, so I would definitely check it out if you happen to decided to do a shopping spree out here one day, you won’t regret it! We try to stay away Michigan Ave but it was safe to say I noticed many locals were also in the mood for some touristy visits here on the Mag Mile as we try to welcome Spring around here.

  3. That wrap looks delicious. I’ll have to order one for carryout this summer — sounds perfect for picnicking at the free concerts at Pritzker Pavilion!

OH ya good idea! I can totally go back there and get that wrap and head to Pritzker Pavilion, I haven’t had a chance to check out the concerts there last summer so this summer for sure! I was really impressed how good the wrap was considering I was in such a touristy area. I have had many wraps in my lifetime too 🙂
